Intracytoplasmic sperm injection

The injection of a sperm into the egg

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an additional method in IVF treatment. In this respect, all the steps up to the egg retrieval are identical. We turn to this when sperm motility is severely restricted and the sperm must be obtained from the testicular tissue, as no spermatozoa are present in the ejaculate. Also we use them after the absence of fertilisation in the previous classical IVF treatment.

The eggs are fixed under a special microscope with a holding pipette. Then a single sperm is loaded into a thin injection pipette and injected directly into the egg. ICSI, also called microinjection, mimics the natural process of the penetration of sperm into the egg. Using this method you can fertilise 50 to 70 % of retrieved eggs. This worldwide established, high-precision procedure is performed by our highly qualified staff.
